Poke Bar Go
Pokemon Go was never an obsession of mine. But now that I've discovered the Poke Bowl, I can totally relate to how people felt about Pokemon Go.
Poke is a traditionally Hawaiian dish from centuries ago that now has introduced itself to New York, Boston, Atlanta, and almost any other major city we can think of.
Thus, I had to try this healthy dish and post on it today for Food Friday. I have to tell you all the story of my experience walking into Maui Onion, a poke bar in the Flatiron district of New York City.
The atmosphere when I walked in was beyond beautiful. Gorgeous plants, sparkling floors, comfy seats, and chic tables.
My immediate thought was that I was in for a treat. I sure was. I ordered with a cashier who was beyond patient with it being my first time.
Being a vegetarian and a health buff, I went for their organic tofu salad with seaweed salad, pickled ginger, ginger, soy sauce, and some kind of crunchy stuff (?).
The lady who prepped my salad did it with such mastery and artistry that I also knew it would be an Instagram worthy pic. Most importantly, I knew it would be good.
I ran back to work in anticipation of having this bowl. Once I finally sat down, I took out my chopsticks and dove right in.
What happened after my first bite? An immediate obsession.
It was the perfect balance of healthy and 100% delicious. The taste of the seaweed salad, salad, organic tofu, and all of the toppings just made for an amazing lunch treat.
Now every time I see a poke bar, I make a mental note of the location and flag it for myself when I am in the area.
I also am glancing at their menus, which are usually in the window, to see what their vegetarian selection looks like.
Not only that, but now I am Googling places that I can try out different poke bowls and salads to find the perfect one. Although, Maui Onion will be tough to beat.
If you guys haven't tried poke bowls, please do it! If you loved Pokemon Go, be ready for your next obsession.
